Бог сказал жене: «Умножая умножу скорбь твою в беременности твоей; в болезни будешь рождать детей; и к мужу твоему влечение твое, и он будет господствовать над тобой» (Быт. 3:16), а Адаму сказал: «В поте лица твоего будешь есть хлеб, доколе не возвратишься в землю, из которой ты взят; ибо прах ты, и в прах превратишься» (Быт. 3:19). Грех Адама наложил трагический отпечаток на судьбу всего человечества. Но второй Адам в лице Христа расчистил дорогу в рай, дав людям покаяние, крещение и взяв на себя их грехи.
